Location of Self-Catering Gite in the Charente - West France

Vineyards and Sunflower Fields
Set in the rolling countryside of the southern Charente region, surrounded by vineyards and sunflower fields the gites are ideally located for those who want a quiet relaxing holiday far from the madding crowds, yet with plenty to see and do should you wish.
The area is noted for its favourable climate, second only to the Provence region and is a mecca for artists, photographers and the like, because of the quality of the light. Unlike some parts of France, the Charente has not yet been "discovered" by hoards of tourists, yet is rich in landscapes, scenery and history. There is also an abundance of bird life in the area, especially birds of prey. The Charentaise people are extremely friendly and hospitable and they welcome visitors with open arms and many "bisous".
The village of Saint Palais Du Né is conveniently located and is approximately 45 minutes drive north east of Bordeaux, 1hours drive south east of La Rochelle and 2hours drive south west of Poitiers.
Closer to hand, the town of Archiac is just 3km away and has a butcher, small supermarket, bakers, newsagents, chemist, florists, etc. The larger towns of Barbezieux, Jonzac and Cognac, with their weekly markets and more extensive shopping facilities are within 15 minutes drive.
